Lessons From the Dakotas: Ideas to Promote Aging in Place in Minnesota

Aging in place is preferred by older adults across the country, yet many homes are constructed in a way that necessitates renovation if someone in the household develops a disability. Professionals report various challenges in connecting consumers to home modifications. This presentation will describe efforts in North Dakota and South Dakota to enhance opportunities for successful aging in place and offer insight about home modification in Minnesota.

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe the role home modification plays in aging in place.

2. Explain and compare the challenges connecting consumers with home modification.

3. Analyze home modification education and outreach efforts in North Dakota and South Dakota.

4. Find and appraise home modifications options in Minnesota.
